It's 2020, and what do we have to show for it?
Consumer friendly jetpacks, teleportation devices, space travel? Nadda. Sci-Fi writers can be blamed for setting undue expectation in the form of fantastical inventions as the cure to the modern condition. The future is here, and we want them now. We have not a single hover car (thanks anyway Elon) holo meal generator (unless we're counting food delivery apps, partial marks there) or dry witted android maids (talk to me when Roomba does laundry.) When you think of the future, what comes to mind? A motorcycle race taking place in a 2-bit outrun landscape with futuresynth rocking in the background? At least we've got that covered.
Electronic music producer, remix wiz and baby genius Ethan Snoreck AKA Whethan opens the decade with a nod to our ever-so optimistic past. The 20 year old musician is back with retrowave track Stay Forever. Opening with dystopian guitar notes that immediately disintegrate into a throbbing bassline, the track progresses into what only can be described a sick groove. STRFKR completes the soundscape with enchantingly wistful vocals that stop short of crashing into an impressive drop.
Lonely lover, wait forever
I said, nothing’s forever
Stay Forever teases the soon to be released album Fantasy - and if this new piece is any indication, a sound that’s fully grown. With massive creative works alongside Dua Lipa, Oliver Tree and Charli XCX still close in the rearview mirror, it's hard to say where this little speed racer will end up next, but fans can expect at least four pop-up style shows and a slew of festival dates to experience the unstoppable machine that is Whethan. Here's to a New Year.
